ICC Takes down Youtube videos.

Most of you may already know the ICC and the GCC its media production arm have partnered with Netresult to take down all ICC World Cup related videos on Youtube. Netresult on its website boasts of its services and goes on to state the following:

“NetResult defends against online hijacking of digital content, using advanced web detection and recording techniques. The NetResult service is designed to protect against online rights theft, identify abusers, and provide the evidence required to prevent damage to revenue streams. ”

As noble as their cause may seem I doubt a ten minute video highlighting a great cricket performance can result in the loss of revenue when every cricket supporters pays to watch the match live and will never pay a dime for highlights. Regardless of the fact the ICC claims rights holders purchase mobile rights, the subscribers don’t pay for highlights they pay the broadcaster for the live game and the highlights package is included in the price. The ICC with this move has managed to take the game back a decade or more. Youtube videos exposed the game to North American viewers who were never exposed to the game. Cricket finally had a successful means of spreading across the globe but the ICC decided enough was enough. The ICC and its group of so called experts failed miserably in trying to promote the game in North America, ‘Project USA’ stands as clear evidence to that. Millions were poured into trying to spread the game of cricket within the
USA and a few million later the ICC scrapped ‘Project USA’.I’m assuming the ICC has entrusted their faith in Netresult to ensure these videos are taken down primarily due to the fact that Netresult was actively involved in online copyright protection for the ICC during the Last ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC sells broadcast rights for the World Cup Matches to a North American satellite TV station called Dish Network/Echostar. Dish network in turn charges $180

US for the entire world cup package. That figure alone puts the world cup and cricket out of every average income household. Not a single family I know willingly dished out that money; they were left with no other legal option. I think the ICC needs to look into who they sell these telecast rights to. Unscrupulous businessmen are only in it for the short term profit and not for the benefit of the game.

    Good Article, Hilal.
I think by this ICC have showed that they work only for money. They are not at all bothered about spreading cricket around the world if they don’t get money.

I feel the pain. It has happened to me before. It is not the youtube’s fault, it’s ICC’s fault. Those filthy bastards are just there to make money for themselves.
